Music Therapy Advisory Board
The Music Therapy Licensing and Practice Act was signed into law in 2022. Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music therapy interventions to accomplish individualized goals for people of all ages and ability levels within a therapeutic relationship. Music therapy does not include the screening, diagnosis, or assessment of any physical, mental, or communication disorder. Modalities include improvisation, receptive listening, song writing, guided imagery, singing and playing instruments, relaxation, patient education, electronic music technology and can be adapted for those who need.
The Advisory Board is comprised of five members appointed by the Secretary, consisting of three members who practice as professional music therapists in Illinois, one member who is a licensed health care provider who is not a music therapist, and one public member who is a consumer. The Advisory Board is charged with providing expert knowledge and advice on disciplinary matters and professional performance and conduct.
