Reminder: Attention Cosmo Licensees Previously Exempt from CE

News Release – Thursday, September 28, 2017

A recent change in law (PA 99-0427) requires all cosmetologists, cosmetology teachers and cosmetology clinic teachers to comply with the continuing education (CE) hours requirement before submitting a renewal application. This change is effective for the 2017 renewal period.

IF YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY EXEMPT AND HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR CE REQUIREMENT:

  • Complete your online renewal application, following the directions provided.

  • Previously exempted licensees will be provided an additional three months to complete the CE requirement from a cosmetology sponsor registered with IDFPR (Your three-month grace period begins on October 1, 2017 and will expire on December 31, 2017).

  • Upon renewal, you will be required to certify that you will complete the required CE within the three-month grace period and may be subject to audit.

  • Please note: Your CE credit will be applied retroactively to the previous renewal cycle. You will be required to fullfill the CE requirement again prior to the 2019 licensure renewal cycle.

Previously exempted licensees that fail to comply with the CE requirement during the three-month grace period may have their license placed in inactive status and will no longer be eligible licensed to practice in Illinois. Cosmetology applicants that miss the renewal deadline of September 30, 2017 will be required to submit proof of their completed CE before they can renew their license.
