Structural Engineering Board

Structural Engineers became regulated by the State of Illinois in 1917. Structural engineers engage in the designing or supervising of the construction, enlargement or alteration of structures, or any part thereof, for others, to be constructed by persons other than himself/herself. The Board is appointed by the Secretary and is composed of seven members, consisting of one public member and six structural engineers licensed under the Act. Each licensed member must be licensed in Illinois as a structural engineer for at least 10 years and have no discipline within those 10 years. The Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Secretary on matters related to professional competence, licensee misconduct, examination and licensure requirements. Additionally, the board reviews the qualifications of applicants for licensure in Illinois.
